Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson
There's only one word to describe this book: bad-ass. A very near-future cyberpunk setting forms the backdrop for a story which manages to be both intellectual and action-movie-exciting at the same time. The first chapter is quite possibly the best novel intro ever written.
