To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis

A 21st century time-traveler reminiscent of a more competent Arthur Dent bounces back and forth between the future and WWII-era Europe trying to fix the timeline, and hilarity ensues. The humor is dry, almost a British style, though Willis herself is a Yank.
