Pastwatch by Orson Scott Card
That the Europeans conquered the Americans instead of the other way around hinged on only a few minor factors. A few minor changes to the timeline and the world would be a very different place today. But if you could do this, would you? Future historians observing the past through partial time-travel technology grapple with this moral question; at the same time, the book gives us an intimate glimpse into the life and deeds of Christopher Columbus.

Card's first novel never got much attention, which is a shame because I think this is one of his more interesting works. |
