The Discworld Books by Terry Pratchett

What Douglas Adams is to sci-fi, Terry Pratchett is to fantasy. Fantasy is a subject that is just begging to be made fun of, and Pratchett does so with clever grace. Each book in the series is short, following a different character and exploring a different corner of the Discworld universe.

There are dozens of books in this series, and I certainly have not read them all, nor do I suspect that they all have quite the same charm. I purposely stuck to the early books in the series, so I can recommend:

The Color of Magic

Equal Rites

Mort

Guards! Guards!
